I really enjoyed the first one, but this sequel has none of the original's assets. Much of the cast is back (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo & Morgan Freeman) and it's a year later.
What's not back is the slick, almost amazing illusions that made the previous one so much fun. It's become more of a Mission-Impossible-style caper with a thin gloss of magic. Too much needless chatter and no smart patter.
The action is often confusing and the plot is needlessly convoluted. Don't "see me": Just rent or stream the original.
