Review of Now You See Me 2 (2016) by Travis G — 19 Jun 2016
It was enjoyable but unfortunately it feel victim to an all too common case of sequal-itis. They went away from more practical(possible) illusions and tricks and had a large amount of CGI. Also, the entire movie/plot was based on a very false view on how hypnotism works but if you can get past there technical drawbacks then the actors do a great job entertaining the viewer. Lizzy Caplan did a fantastic job filling in for Isla Fischer who was pregnant during shooting and had to be recast. Lizzy was highly enjoyable with a good balance of humor and presence. Woody playing 2 roles as his twin brother was silly and not needed but didn't ruin it for me. Jesse and Franco play their characters roles perfectly and nothing ever needs to be said of Mark's performance.
Go into the movie relaxed with an open mind knowing that this one isn't as closely grounded in realism as the first and you will enjoy it. If money is tight it isn't something you need to see in theater and can absolutely wait for on Netflix or RedBox but I do think its worth a viewing.
