Review of Novitiate (2017) by Ellen C — 06 Dec 2017
I really looked forward to seeing Novitiate. Having gone to Catholic schools all the way through high school and had lots of contacts with nuns and people in the religious communities. I see that many reviewers say that the movie was technically flawless.
But it seems to me that the community was totally isolated. The nuns didn't even go to confession. I thought that it dragged in parts. The photography was beautiful and the film must have been shot in a real religious institution.
The plot was about the mother superiors inability to deal with the changes in the church in the 1960's. For what ever reason, I just don't think the community would have been so isolated. Interesting ending.
