Review of Notting Hill (1999) by Mikaela C — 06 Mar 2012
Notting Hill is actually a truly funny romantic comedy, which is rare for me because I usually hate romantic comedies. Its just that they gave a truly interesting story that made me ask the question "what would happen to my life after a famous actress fell in love with an average guy like me?" The plot is funny and well written all the way through, the characters are ones I grew to like quickly and they become very fun after 2 hours.
But thats the films main problem, they could have cut out 10-20 minutes of pointless scenes that were truly pointless to the story, but its a small price to pay to see such a great film. The cast features outstanding performances from Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, who both had chemistry and made me laugh.
Hugh Grant is a very funny guy, no denile there, and here he captured my heart and my funny bone which is rare for an actor. Julia Roberts I think was playing herself with a different name, and maybe thats why her performance was just so good.
So overall, Notting Hill is a romantic comedy that people are gonna like because for once it has something we never truly see in a romantic comedy........ its actually funny AND charming! I know, it shocked me too.
