Review of Nothing Like the Holidays (2008) by Astrid T — 04 Jan 2009
Totally different than what I expected. I thought it was more a comedy in the vein of â??Four Christmasesâ??. And there were a lot of funny bits in it. Yet there were also a lot of serious subjects touched upon.
All in all it was an interesting study in family dynamics. Also, showing us the reason why family is so important and how come we can be at each othersâ?? throat - yet be celebrating and love each other unconditionally the next second.
I donâ??t have any Latino friends so I canâ??t speak to the accuracy that the Latino community was portrayed in this movie. Things like their customs and how they celebrate the Christmas Holidays. But if this was a true portrayal then I would love to spend time with a Latino family at Christmas.
They truly celebrate this holiday as a happy event and like a birthday - with singing, dancing and just spending time together. In Germany itâ??s a more â??dignifiedâ?? event. A quiet celebration with hymns and reverie.
The celebrations in this movie looked a lot more fun!
