Review of Nothing Left to Fear (2013) by Enam I — 18 Sep 2013
If it were not for the nightmare scenes in the film's first half, one would think this is a simple drama about a girl finding love in a small country town while her family adjusts from big city life. Soon after though, the town's dark secrets come to life and the new family in town finds out they are going to used in a ritual to appease a demonic portal to hell.
The movie itself is pretty decent, with a very slow pace leading up the grisly second half of the movie. The acting and visual effects are decent, as this is an independent horror movie.
The only part I didn't like was that the movie was very vague in terms of the ritual and how it works. There is a lot of religious symbolism spread throughout but the actual history of the town doesn't seem to make sense, and the film ends up underdeveloped in terms of story. The scares and chases are decent, but the plot is vague, and not in a good mysterious way either.
A decent horror offering, Nothing Left to Fear isn't the worst horror movie, but its not even close to shattering any barriers to be considered the great new horror classic.
