Review of Nothing But the Truth (2008) by Joe B — 05 May 2009
Vera Farmiga, Vera Farmiga, Vera Farmiga.
That's what you need to know about this film. Seriously, every film I've seen this woman in she's been amazing and this is no different (remember her as the only woman in The Departed...and remember how she holds her own against all those guys?).
After Farmiga, this is a hit-or miss cast and film. Beckinsale does solid work here as a reporter who breaks a national news story and then goes to jail after refusing to reveal her source. It won't take you long to figure out who the source is and it honestly doesn't matter in the end.
What's kinda lame about this movie is while it is chock full of recognizable faces, barely half of them are any good in the movie. Matt Dillon is totally miscast, Noah Wyle should stick to TV work, David Schwimmer will always be Ross and needs to stop trying to do something else. Bassett is decent and Alda thinks that he walks on water.
Rod Lurie has crafted some uneven films (The Contender, The Last Castle) and an uneven TV series (Commander in Chief)...and he maintains his track record here.
