Review of Nothing But the Truth (2008) by Éowyn A — 13 Oct 2009
Undeservedly overlooked during its very limited release even in its home country (in fact not even any release in Turkey), this latest political thriller from the always dependable Rod Lurie is a suspenseful and very well done film.
Also very timely in its discussion of the importance of freedom of speech and how it is something that is either there or disappears completely once it becomes subject to any restrictions. The lenghty monologue by Alan Alda near the end is one of the most well achieved passages of political statements in all cinematic history in my opinion.
The shocking twist at the last scene also puts everything into perspective brilliantly. Great piece of intelligent filmmaking.
