Review of Nothing But the Truth (2008) by Jalley O — 22 Sep 2010
An excellent little film here. Starring Kate Beckinsale (who provides the finest performance of her career thus far) as a Chicago Sun-Times reporter who, following the publication of a story which outs a CIA agent and accuses the President of launching an unnecessary military attack against Venezuela, refuses to reveal her source despite incarceration and the eventual collapse of her marriage, among other things.
It?s obviously a timely film, fictionalizing the recent Valerie Plame case, as well as The New York Times former reporter, Judith Miller, who served time for refusing to give up a source. Also starring a riveting Vera Farmiga (as the outed CIA agent), Alan Alda (as a defense attorney), Matt Dillon (as an incredibly slimy Special Prosecutor) David Schwimmer, Angela Bassett, and Noah Wyle, all of whom deliver outstanding supporting work.
This film could gain quite the following once more people have a chance to see it. It shares many similarities, I feel, with A Few Good Men, including the quality of that film.
