Review of Notes on a Scandal (2006) by Philip C — 15 Jun 2010
This is a simple tale with strong performances from Blanchett and Nighy...but they're only support. The film revolves around Dench and it's a magnificent, powerhouse performance that cements her status as the finest actress alive today. Her character has so much depth that lesser actresses would fail to do such a role justice. She devours the script and spits it out with such fervent style that it's impossible to take your eyes off her. When she's on screen, the intensity that radiates from her when she's doing nothing more than observing is incredible.
This film is all about Dench and it's all the better for it.
