Review of Notes on a Scandal (2006) by Chriss. — 07 Mar 2007
It's one of the worse movie adaptations of a book. The psychological darkness of Judi Dench's character, brilliantly controlled in the book, was cheapened to lesbian obsession. Granted, it's more difficult to control how the audience interprets a scene in a movie than what to reveal in a book, but that's where the movie's biggest flaw lies.
As a critic said, the movie's value lies in the actors' triumph (although Cate Blanchett, as good an actess as she is, looks too sensible a person to be cast in the role), but not much else.
