Review of Not Without My Daughter (1991) by Annelies S — 25 Dec 2010
I read that book twenty years ago and still remember the horror in that novel. But I also had a feeling that this woman could have escaped this tragedy if only she was less naive. These were my thougths back then,.
The movie is a less complicated version of the book and when I saw the real Betty in an interview with her teenage daughter a bit later on, it seemed to me that her real-life story was much harder than this movie could ever portray. This film failed to cause anger in me. More recently I have watched a lot of movies discussing the problem between the West and the Middle-East and these were making me extremely angry. This movie did not cause any strong emotions in me. Could be done so much better.
