Review of Not Without My Daughter (1991) by Diamant K — 09 Aug 2017
No without my daughter.
This theme is a movie about culture and religious differences in marriage, and it is also equality men and in society. Partners in mixed marriages may be supportive of each other's religious beliefs but still often run into unexpected issues. Differences in the way people in these marriages celebrate certain holidays or have dietary restrictions are to be expected. However, other problems may arise, which have a much bigger impact on the partners in mixed marriages.
A girl named Betty and decided to marry with a man named Alfred Moody who is from Iran. A man came in the United States to get the education, after his education he became a doctor and works in the clinic. At the time, he is working in the clinic in the United States, he is victim of the racism. Sometimes, he had the homesick, and called his family he promises to visit them. Molina is inspired by the resurgence of Islamic fundamentalism that his wife Betty has to be like the Iranian wife and he wanted his daughter to grow up Muslima. Betty and Moody have a daughter.
As us people evolve, we have to attribute the meaning to somethings as culture and religious in marriage. How do we give context to our lives and our place in the world about culture and religion in the marriage? Being religious is a big part of human people and a point which is a central part in all living life and complete being. Spiritual and religious approaches are as large and diverse as we are. Maybe or not we are LDS, Catholic, Buddhist, Muslim, or anything in between, our spirituality touches on important identity of our beings as we see with Moody. For some of us, our believing is the driving force in how we lead our lives and influent which the choices we make that determine our present existence and our future. We see that in the movie Moody moved in Iran with his wife and daughter, he didn't treat her as he used to do that in the United States.
In mild-east countries, Islam is state religion or main religion. The laws of the mild-east countries go with the Islam religion as the law doesn't allow to vote and to speak in the public. Women have to cover all body and face, and they are not equality as we see in the United States. We can imagine for a woman as Betty, she is from where the marriage is partners equal, and women are independent to their husband. Women have right to vote and wear normal clothes, and women can be a candidate as we saw with Hilary Clinton. The United States have to protect the violations and rights of women. In Iran, women are most slaves.
Men and women can't be in the culture, but in the same religion which can help them to be happy marriage. they have a communication which give the opportunity to appreciate each one. We can spend to know both partner families. The legitimate cultural differences can't or can exist, but both partners can try to live the gospel culture, because they try to share the same as honesty, work together, charity, humility etc.... We can see one between the culture and religious differences in marriage, it can make the marriage, but it depends where people are. As in Iran, the law of the country is the same with the religion. Both culture and religious differences in marriage have to be the same, if they live in Iran. I don't think that if the same in the United States.
