Review of Not Okay (2022) by Amateurfilmvwr — 29 Sep 2022
I feel like someone saw how "Dear Evan Hansen" was gonna turn out and decided, "Hey, we can do this better." Not Okay is a good movie, it shines a light on today's social media age and how people will do practically anything for their 15 minutes of fame. People whose entire existence relies upon the number of followers they have on their Instagram, Twitter on TikTok.
This film attempts to showcase how sometimes....to steal a quote from Johnny Cash, "What's done in the dark, will be brought to the light." We see it all the time in today's shock jock media culture where the same internet that had brought you to the dance will take you down in a matter of seconds. Actions have consequences.
The execution isn't flawless, I felt like the ending was a bit harsh considering people have done alot worse in society. Zoey Deutch is criminally underrated actress and her friendship with Mia Isaac felt real and believable.
