Review of Not Fade Away (2012) by David G — 21 Dec 2012
A slow, dull film which has already faded from my cinematic mindset. What strives to be a lovelorn to Almost Famous (with an emphasis on late 60's/early 70's Rolling Stones music), meanders with a standard tale of a tribute band that never got off the ground.
The leads hold no interest probably since they are upstaged by James Gandolfini - his character was the only interesting one, but the plot keeps going back to the dullards in the band. The opening 3 mins offered what could've been an interesting story (the black-n-white meeting of Mick Jagger & Keith Richards on a train) - it's sad that one brief scene can upstage the remainder of the film.
If you're a fan of this music (which I'm not), perhaps it would be nice to hear the songs played out - but, in that case, listen to the Rolling Stones Greatest Hits and spare yourself 112 mins from this fractured record.
