Review of Not Easily Broken (2009) by Deidre M — 13 Jan 2009
You either love or hate this film. In my experience with TD Jakes films I find his movies to be predicable and over washed with religious themes. I find Tyler Perry has molded this life lesson/religous themed type of movie making and TD Jakes is still working on perfecting this.
The plot is all over the place and some of the characters are not needed. I felt more emphasis should have been on the married couple. Dave and Resse had a great story but we never got to see it because we had the "white" friend and the "hood" friend blocking our way.
The lesson was beautiful but even then I was left wanting more of the background on Ms Clark and how she raised her daughter being as bitter as she was. I wanted to see why she became bitter and not just be told why.
What I do know is there are many movie goers who will relate to these characters and that is what makes it tolerable. I would recommend this film but do not expect much.
