Review of Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) by Alex H — 26 Aug 2013
I don't think there is any doubt that Roger Ebert (like me), was a huge fan of Werner Herzog's.
And thank goodness for it, because without Ebert's adoration, I would probably only know Herzog's as the director of Grizzly Man. Instead, I have watched many Herzog's films and have come to adore him too.
Nosferatu the Vampire is the closest Herzog's has ever come to a remake. He uses basically the same script, many of the same locations and many of the same shots. But he twists it and turns it into something different while never relaxing his regard for Murnau and Schreck. I dare say he has made a film that equals that great work of 1922.
