Review of Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) by Jose Miguel G — 28 Sep 2015
Klaus Kinski is marvellous in the title role of Herzog's remake of the classic 1920's silent film. He brings an enigmatic, occasionally comical weirdness to the vampire, but is also commandingly terrifying.
Bruno Ganz (perhaps best known these days for his unforgettable portrayal of Hitler in "The Downfall") is also brilliant as the gradually deteriorating Jonathan Harker. An atmospheric and spooky film which feels just a little laboured by the end, but which is ultimately satisfying.
Evocative, creepy and like most classic horror films, does not rely upon gore or jump scares and is foreboding and ominous in its vision.
