Review of Nosferatu (1922) by Katelyn B — 01 Apr 2011
If anyone wants to see the first vampire movie ever made, here it is. This is my second silent film (first was Charlie Chaplin's "The Gold Rush") but this is my first silent horror film. It was probably the most horrifying film ever in the 1920's, but today for me, it was more creepy than anything.
Some of the criticizing I have for this film is that it was a little jumpy... the scenes didn't exactly flow smoothly. Also the music wasn't that impressive - a lot of it was recycled music and cymbol taps.
Believe me, when you don't have dialogue to listen to, the music counts. I really do applaud the silent era - the films are neat, unique, and actors have to rely on their acting and not their speech to make an entertaining movie.
What I like about silent films is that you can't and don't want to look away for fear of missing something or something to read :D! Overall, bravo on the very first ever vampire film!
