Review of Nosferatu (1922) by Lauren S — 30 Jan 2013
A true work of art & stunning example of German expressionist film-making at its finest. The antiquity & silence only ads to the haunting effect. A true classic that was almost lost! Had those stowed away bootlegs not survived or been found the world would have lost something so fundamental to what became modern art in the years following.
Expressionist film-making has become a lost art that I wish would be utilized & perhaps perfected in modern cinema. The last great example in existence is Orson Welles' Citizen Kane. Even Hitchcock never fully managed to capture it properly in most of his American films.
