Its source material is regarded as 'an unfilmable novel'... maybe they were right. Yes, its pretty to look at but the tone is incessantly morose and its incredibly dull. There's more than an air of pretentiousness to proceedings too; a crushing 'emo' factor where everything is so tragic because life is tragic etc.
.. whatever. And cheer up.
