Review of North Country (2005) by Danielle S — 16 Mar 2008
This true story centers on Lori Jenson, who took a job at a Minnesota iron mine in 1975. She and other female miners endured harassment from male co-workers, ranging from verbal taunts to pornographic graffiti and worse.
Jenson eventually filed suit in 1984 and won a landmark legal decision. Charlize Theron once again puts her heart and soul into a role, as this natural beauty seems so real as just an average looking Jane type.
Theron is fabulous as Josey Aimes a single mother of two who has took abuse all of her life, suddenly decides she wants a new start and decent life. Good supporting cast with good performances from Woody Harrelson, Sissy Spacek, and a most touching and memorable one from Josey's best friend and co-worker played so brilliant by Frances McDormand.
North Country" qualifies as a sober-minded analysis of the dark side of capitalism.
