Review of North by Northwest (1959) by Bradley W — 09 Jul 2012
North by Northwest is not only one of the greatest thrillers of all-time, its one of the best films ever made. Alfred Hitchcock is widely considered one of the greatest directors in cinema ever, and I truly believe this and Psycho are his masterpieces.
I loved the pacing in this film as we slowly begin to understand secrets, and the excitment in some scenes were only something that Hitchcock could cook up. Alfred Hitchock has made many extraordinary classics such as Vertigo, Rear Window, and Psycho, but I believe that North By Northwest may be one of his best masterpieces.
I mean everything to the scene where Cary grant runs from the plane, when he runs out of the building and we see him as small as an ant running, or even the ending on Mount Rushmore, everything just gets the heart pumping and the audience interested.
Cary Grant was incredible and this is still one of the finest roles of his career. Eva Marie Saint plays a splendid performance as well and is the classic Hitchcock girl. But the cast is not what's important here, it's Hitchcock's flawless script that is his most exciting film to date and equally matches Psycho in thrills.
North by Northwest is a film that I believe any true film lover should see, as it's a major stepping stone for thriller films and one of the greatest movies in cinema. One of my all-time favorite films.
