Review of North by Northwest (1959) by Matthew A — 20 Aug 2011
Quintessential Alfred Hitchcock picture expertly blends action, suspense, and sardonic wit. Roger Thornhill gets mistaken for CIA agent George Kaplan, and takes it on the lam from the police who believe him to be a murderer, the KGB who view him as an agent, and from the CIA who view his life as expendable.
When Roger Thornhill meets Eve Kendall, played by the sexy Eva Marie Saint, then the sparks really fly. Superb entertainment with memorable scene after memorable scene and punctuated by Ernest Lehman's witty script and Bernard Hermann's exciting score.
