Review of North by Northwest (1959) by Chris L — 12 Aug 2012
One of Hitchcock's most accessible films. Cary Grant plays Roger Thornhill, an advertising executive who gets mistaken for a spy, and he ends up running for his life across the country. Eva Marie Saint plays Eve Kendall, a woman with ulterior motives who gets caught up in Thornhill's mess.
Bernard Hermann's score in this movie is one of his most energetic. Cary Grant is handsome, suave, and quite hysterical as the male lead, and Eva Marie Saint is elegant and dangerous as Eve. Even as a non-film buff not watching for suspense, romance, or drama, or Hitchcock's usual touches, the whole film is just a ton of fun to watch.
