Review of Noroi: The Curse (2005) by Patrick D — 12 Dec 2008
Rarely does any horror movie leave a lasting effect on me after viewing it, nor does it unsettle me constantly throughout, but such was certainly the case with Noroi. Easily the best film employing the "cinema verite" style, a la Blair Witch and the underrated Cloverfield, Noroi takes its sweet time setting up a haunting tale of a paranormalist who films his research dealing with unexplained phenoma.
Through his most recent exploits, he encounters crazed psychics, loony eccentrics, and supernatural forces that are unexplainable. Many of those he encounters disappear, and this all leads to an incredible, and downright disturbing, finale.
Don't watch alone. Actually, scratch that. Do watch this alone, the effect will be life-ruining.
