Review of Norma Rae (1979) by Frank M — 09 May 2008
A powerful film about workers unions in the late 70s. It's audacious to even think that some southern towns back then weren't unionized even though the US govt deemed them constitutional. This movie shows the many loopholes that big companies pull to ensure that their needs are met before the employee's civil liberties, and how one southern textile worker and a New York unionizer came together to win over the hearts of many cynical ppl who didnt believe it could ever happen.
This movie captures every essence of what it means to live in a bible belt town, and it also captures the racial and social prejudices that existed then. A primed and perfect performance from Sally Field!
