Review of Norma Rae (1979) by Erik L — 25 Sep 2009
This movie's script is wound so unbelievably tight, it puts most modern screenwriters (if not all) to deep shame.
The acting in this film is off the charts. The naturalism and pathos Ritt extracts from his cast packs a wallop that is easy to miss because everything is played so straight and even-keel: no ACTING moments! Simply moments of being.
I've seen this three times now, in addition to having read the script, and it touches me harder and swifter with each successive viewing, as my layers of cinematic cynicism are further stripped away.
