Review of Norbit (2007) by Ryan R — 30 Dec 2009
Funny at times, offensive at others. Overall, it isn't complete garbage, but I do not reccomend anyone waste their time watching this movie. It does give a glimpse at the talent Eddie Murphy possesses. He can master any type of character.
Just as he did in The Nutty Professor, Murphy takes on the role of not only the lead, but many of the supporting roles as well. His ability to capture the essence of a fat, obnoxious, and abusive girlfriend is scary.
In fact, he was so good at playing Resputia, that it was hard to believe that he was also the dorky main character. Not to mention he also played a stereotypical, and offensive Chinese elder. I guess its okay to be as racist as you want to be, as long as you're not white.
FYI: I'm not white either, so I hope no one is offended by that statement.
The only thing that kept me from hating this movie with all my heart was Eddie Griffin and Katt Williams, who played (also very stereotypical) pimps, most likely inspired by Bishop Magic Don Juan and Money Mike.
