Review of Non-Transferable (2017) by Erin W — 14 Feb 2017
This movie opens with the promise to be your typical hallmark-channel-type RomCom... maybe a little cheesy, but thoroughly enjoyable and meeting your expectations perfectly. But once Ashley and Brendan start sharing the screen, it catapults into something even better than you hoped for.
The pair had me laughing out loud from their encounter with airport security through the rest of the film. Loud, belly laughs echoing through my empty bedroom until I remember I have roommates who might be trying to sleep, but still couldn't contain myself.
The location is beautiful, the set and coloring perfect, the cast wonderfully diverse. On the whole, the movie never elevates out of what I expected it to be- your slightly cheesy, fairly predictable, but thoroughly enjoyable made-for-tv type RomCom, but it does what it does well, and this leading pair make it stand out as something special.
I look forward to any future collaborations. And the post-credits teaser for a potential sequel with the same characters is certainly fun to consider. It was fun to see them both begin to appreciate the other's approach to life, and the dynamic certainly has fuel to carry another laughter and feel-good inducing film.
