Review of Non-Stop (2013) by Andrew M — 03 Jun 2016
Non-Stop is completely absurd, nonsensical, and convoluted... and it's kind of a blast. The paranoia fueled story sometimes gets dragged down by so many red herrings and misleading plot points, but watching all of these characters turn against one another and figure out "who done it" is endlessly entertaining, albeit predictable.
Jaume Collet-Serra is no stranger to twisting plots like this, and he delivers this convoluted story as well as he can. The technical aspects are the real highlight of his direction though: one scene with a long take winding through the cramped cabin is stunning.
Liam Neeson is great as always: by now, he's shown that he owns this subgenre of films, and Non-Stop is no exception. In fact, all of the acting is actually good: Julianne Moore, Scoot McNairy, and Corey Stoll are solid, among others.
Non-Stop is the definition of "leave your brain at home" cinema. Even the lightest of thoughts will blow open numerous plot holes and inconsistencies like a gunshot in an airplane cabin, but for anyone willing to not take it too seriously, it's, well, non-stop fun.
