Review of Noel (2004) by Vanesa E — 03 Mar 2015
I found Noel to be a rare gem of a holiday movie. So often the Christmas genre is clogged up with films that are syrupy and twee. There are the loveable family favorites, for sure, but taking a chance on an adult holiday film often ends in regret. That is very much not the case with this one, directed by Chazz Palminteri (A Bronx Tale and Bullets over Broadway).
The story centers around the lives of five people on Christmas Eve. Relationships, love, and loss are thematic throughout. There are some notable actors in this cast; including both the late Paul Walker and Robin Williams. Williams' part is especially endearing, and Susan Sarandon is notably superb.
I urge you to give this one a chance next Christmas; a cup of hot cocoa and a cozy blanket is a must while viewing.
