This is one of those films that contains a lot of symbolism and metaphors. It takes some time to fully digest what in the world was going on in certain scenes. Normally I love this kind of film however Nocturnal Animals was really disappointing.
Analyzing the film's symbolism did improve my overall rating of the film, but the writing falls significantly short of other suspenseful psychological thrillers and of other highly symbolic films.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams give outstanding performances but the storyline lacks substance and is surprisingly predictable. What a waste of great talent.
