Review of Nocturnal Animals (2016) by Kym B — 21 Dec 2016
Um....let's see. This is one of those movies that, when it ends, everyone whispers to the person next to them and says, "Wait. THAT'S the end? What's it supposed to mean?" I think if I had read the summary of what the movie was about BEFORE I went to the movie (which I never ever would do), I would have enjoyed it more.
I didn't fully understand that the whole movie was {HERE'S THE PART I DIDN'T KNOW GOING IN - not a spoiler, but would have made it better for me to know ahead of time IMO}: an illusion that represented his previous marriage.
I assumed he had gotten remarried and was telling about some horrific thing that had happened to his second marriage. I obviously missed something that specifically pointed that out, and was slow to figure it out.
Could be just me: I do have issues with similar actor's faces. Amy Adams looks a lot like Isla Fisher. Purposefully I think, but that led to my confusion. OVERALL: Great acting that kept me interested for the entire movie - but somehow, the director did not connect all the hanging threads (for me anyway), and for that reason, I'm out.
