Review of Nocturnal Animals (2016) by Sophia H — 09 Jan 2017
This movie's aspirations were beyond what it was able to deliver. It's overly melodramatic and is not as profound as it pretends to be. The story is overwrought and overly dramatic, although I found the novel within the story to be interesting.
The only word for Amy Adam's performance is tedious -- she doesn't act at all, she just coasts through the movie with no expression. The opening sequence is misogynist and offensive to overweight women ( why no men?).
The best part of the movie was the sheriff who gave a stunning performance. Jose Gyllenhal was good, but this movie is not going to win him an Oscar. I will avoid Tom Ford movies in future.
