Review of Nocturnal Animals (2016) by Lucas Y — 26 Feb 2017
Since I've seen Nocturnal Animals images from this movie have stayed with me. The subject matter of this movie is dark and gritty, and hence caution to those who are faint-hearted. Its a psychological thriller that will seep-in and stay.
But at the same time it is a movie not to be missed. There are 2 timelines in this movie, one real and one fictional, and it is the seamless transition in and out of these two stories that is so fascinating.
Like in Arrival, the cinematography here is astounding as well and deserves an Oscar nomination. The long silent shots are captured magnificently and will make sure that you are always at the edge of your seat.
Amy Adams delivers another powerful performance. But this movie belongs Jake Gyllenhaal. He live and breathes both his characters and defiantly deserves an Oscar nod for this chilling performance.
