A strange and hypnotic thriller that delivers an immense sense of dread that untangles as it goes. It haunts so well that it helps forgive some of the plot holes. The cold and thoughtful performances from Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are amongst the years best.
