Review of Nocturnal Animals (2016) by Patricia W — 03 Sep 2017
This is a very tense, layered film which leaves a lot to the interpretation of the viewer. Amy Adams puts in another great performance as Susan, an art gallery owner with a lavish lifestyle who receives a manuscript from her ex-husband Tony, Jake Gyllenhaal, about an awful event befalling a man and his family.
The film does an excellent job of weaving different narratives together, cutting between Susan's previous relationship with Tony, his manuscript and her reaction to it in the present. It is a very well thought out, heavily symbolic piece which is thoroughly engaging throughout.
