Review of Nocturnal Animals (2016) by James K — 04 Dec 2016
Very well made film. The closest to a Hitchcock experience yet - & I don't mean copying the style of Hitchcock, but in the visual process. Few filmmakers today take such care in every aspect of the film - script, cinematography, color, editing - as Tom Ford has done.
There is a lot going here, like in Hitchcock's best movies, that a repeat viewing is necessary. The "book" storyline was written & filmed as if the viewer was reading a book. All 3 leads were great - Michael Shannon in particular.
