Aronofsky's films always are always filled with philosophical and moral issues that challenge the audience to think, and this one is visually stunning, as well. The major theme is justice vs mercy and love, with latter winning out.

But there are so many other issues dealt with here--Aronofsky champions environmentalism, vegetarianism and pacifism as well, finding that man's besetting sins are violence, killing other men and animals, eating same, destroying the environment for selfish gain, and arrogance in thinking that only man has rights--rights to use and destroy whatever he feels like destroying.

. For a Biblical epic it is unusual in its seaming together creation by God and evolution both. The acting is good and the script intellectually challenging, while the special effects wow you. There are even ex-angel-rock monsters.
