Review of Noah (2013) by Carol G — 15 Aug 2015
I watched this movie out of curiosity since I've studied the Hebrew text of Genesis and the historical records known as "The Book of Jasher." I'm amazed at how inaccurate this movie is.
Making Noah pretty much a homicidal lunatic was lame considering Noah was the author of the Noahitide laws - one of which was "Do not murder.".
In addition, Noah's daughter-in-laws were present on the ark, and not in the form of unborn children that he was ready to slaughter.
HUGE issue was the giants also known as the Nephilim. They were not the good guys in the Genesis account. The screenwriter should have studied Genesis 6. Now that would have made a much better story if the writer(s) would have carried through with that storyline.
Methuselah (whose name means in Hebrew - his death shall bring judgement) died BEFORE the flood, not as a result of it. With more extensive research, this could have been both a better and more dynamic film and storyline that was truer to the text and traditions of both the Bible and Book of Jasher.
Shame on the makers of this film for their laziness. But I suppose they did hit the expected beats and formulas required in a Hollywood script these days, with more than a pinch of environmental political correctness.
