Review of No Strings Attached (2011) by Raja N — 28 Nov 2011
Rom coms.....
The hardest genre in the cinema industry to achieve originality, which is in my opinion the most important factor in any successful film, alongside predictability of course.
Unfortunately, No strings attached is nowhere near originality, it's highly predictable, and neither Nathalie Portman or any other A-list star could change that. Succeeding at the box office doesn't mean it's a good film either, so i'm going strong and stick with my argument. The answer to the enigma is pretty simple and obvious though ; like the sports movies, romantic comedies are very similar : boy meets girl / problems arouse as running time go by / they leave each others since it isn't working out / miraculously find a solution, get back together and live happily ever after.
How many times have we seen this scenario ? Do we really have to see it again ? The sexual issue is just a mini plot to diverse us from the usual scenario but if you look closer you will find it's all similar. The other problem in the movie that it dragged with the same plot in and out too many times it finally succeeded to ache our brains out.
As for Mrs. Portman, I think she'd better be off working with Darren Aronofski or Luc Besson, because if there's something I hate, it's talent wasting.
