Review of No Strings Attached (2011) by Shajie K — 12 Feb 2012
A romantic comedy about a young man finally ready to settle down with a woman afraid of committing to anything long-term. (Hmmm, where have I read that before?) It's actually more about that than about the âbenefitsâ? of having casual sex with a close friend.
But, in most cases, isnâ(TM)t the bedroom what separates a friend from a girl/boyfriend anyways? I enjoyed this film because I connected with Adam and Emma (played by Kuchter and Portman) since they were portrayed as real people without exaggerated means, dreams or needs.
The concept of trusting in everlasting love resonated with me because I understand both sides of why mid-20 adults may want to either hesitate or rush headlong into a relationship their heart is telling them is right.
Portman is so talented - she has an incredible knack of describing precise emotions with her eyes. Reitman was able to lure a strong supporting cast which includes veterans like Kline and talented newcomers Johnson, Gerwig and Kaling.
