Review of No Strings Attached (2011) by Kayla R — 21 Jun 2012
Going into this movie, I had pretty average expectations. My friend said that it was good, but the reviews werenâ(TM)t amazing. I recognized the actors, so⦠I gave it a shot. I regret that.
Though the supporting characters were all hilarious, the main characters failed to engage me in their predictable journey. The movie started off with Ashton Kutcher saying that he likes Natalie Portman, even though he hasnâ(TM)t seen her since they were little kids. Maybe he saw her in Black Swan or V for Vendetta for something. Then Natalie Portman invites him to something for no apparent reason. We find that that event is a funeral. Oh, how funny. The big problem with the beginning of this movie is that the writing is awful and that the dumb, unrealistic story simply isnâ(TM)t engaging or interesting whatsoever. This issue continued throughout the entire movie. The plot was not only extremely predictable, but also always felt forced and awkward; everything was clunky and didnâ(TM)t fit together properly. The acting is also sub-par. Iâ(TM)m not sure if this is the fault of the people casting the actors or the actors themselves because these actors do actually have considerable reputations. Well, at least Natalie Portman does. Anyways, neither Portman nor Kutcher showcase their supposed talent in this movie whatsoever in this boring movie. Their dialogue was all boring, probably due to the writing and delivery. But perhaps the biggest problem is the love story. The plot revolves around this love story, but it never ends up being believable. I didnâ(TM)t understand why Natalie Portman liked Ashton Kutcher and vice versa, besides physically. They didnâ(TM)t seem to have any chemistry at all.
Rating: A boring, predictable, badly written movie like this gets a 4/10!
