As is so common in Hollywood nowadays, dueling studios released carbon-copy films in 2011 with 'No Strings Attached' and 'Friends with Benefits'. The former, of course, features Natalie Portman fresh off her Oscar buzz paired with Ashton Kutcher, and the two are hardly an ideal match.

Considering the lameness of the plot (Portman and Kutcher commit themselves to a purely physical relationship), it's not a surprise that these normally exceptional actors don't impress much here.

Sure, there are plenty of comedic parts, as would be expected for a movie based on this topic. But none of them are memorable, or particularly clever. Additionally, the supposedly sweet evolution of the two main co-stars' relationship is a lot more sour, as there's too much crying and confusion going on to help the audience feel any connection.

The supporting cast is led by Greta Gerwig and Kevin Kline, and they do an okay job all things considered. That said, there are more reasons to ignore 'No Strings Attached' than there are to give it a try, so feel free to skip it if you haven't yet crossed paths.
