Review of No Retreat, No Surrender (1986) by Kalif V — 02 Aug 2008
This film is one of those "so bad its good" horrible movies. The acting is unbelievably bad and way over-the-top. The premise is...well its about Bruce Lee's ghost coming back and training a loser who gets beat up all the time.
..so its awesome. Van Damme is awesome in this movie as a nearly invincible Russian villain. The training montages are mildly inspiring and the film is a definite 80s flashback. It's awful, but its so awful you can't really stop watching it and rolling your eyes.
The ending provides some semi-decent fight scenes, but the sound effects and certain parts of it are so ridiculously corny that you'll be crying from laughter.
