Review of No Escape (2015) by Edward D — 27 Aug 2015
Went to see this with some friends and we all found it "very stressful", so I think it did its job as a thriller. I don't know if I agree with reviews that have criticized the film for xenophobia, although I can see why that would be a concern, mainly because citizens of the country where the film is set seem just as afraid of the rebels as the main characters - and one of their best allies seems to be from the country where the family relocates as well. And they are at times aided by locals. I felt the reason for the coup was explained well enough that I understood why the rebels targeted some of the main characters.
The acting was good, and I liked that Lake Bell's character was stronger than most females roles in these sorts of films.
