Review of No End in Sight (2007) by Grant P — 01 Dec 2007
This documentary is stuffed full of information, some we've heard before but a lot of revelatory facts as well. I tend not to watch any news at all, because it's so counterproductive and redundant. Here, Ferguson highlights several major problems with the situation in Iraq. Firstly, the lack of troops sent correlates directly to the military inexperience among members of the Bush administration. Secondly, much of the looting and cultural destruction of Iraq was ignored by American troops, because it wasn't part of the initiative. However, this was critical as looting turned into violent crime. To further the chaos created by inefficiency and ignorance, Paul Bremer was inaugurated as head of the CPA and highlighted three detrimental plans, again due to lack of experience. His decisions, including the disband of the Iraqi army, furthered despair and fueled the insurgency. So, in essence, we are now fighting a different war than we were four years ago.
Small complaints in the film include dramatic music (yet again) and poor voiceover. Fortunately, for most of the film, these people speak for themselves.
