Review of No Country for Old Men (2007) by Richard D — 03 Feb 2015
Definitely the Coen Brothers' most technically proficient film and a skilled adaptation of the source material (in fact, a very very close adaptation ... only one sizeable portion of the novel is dropped and very little of the rest is altered).
A film that's immensely easy to like until the last half hour, which I think it extraordinarily well-done, but is told so obliquely that it's easy to misunderstand the point. Suffice it to say that I think it's a mistake to assume that Tom Bell is correct in his assessments and a bigger mistake to think the title refers to his claims that crime have got worse.
It makes the final scene a lot more comprehensible and a quite appropriate ending.
