The Coen Brothers' adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel is another expertly crafted piece of film-making from the duo: the cinematography is dark and brooding, the atmosphere consistently alternates between philosophical and suspenseful to create a heightened sense of mystery and tension, the dramatic action sequences are excitingly visceral, and the film's cast is studded with excellent performances from Josh Brolin, Tommy Lee Jones, and Oscar-winning Javier Bardem as the sadistic and menacing hitman Anton Chigurh.
